Bluegrass in the Good Land – Byron Berline, The Very Lonesome Boys, Phil Salazar and The Kin Folk!
Sound like fun? You bet your banjo.
Hey, there’s a great and much-loved little family we know of in our music community; they have some big medical bills and we want to help them out.
So, the Song Tree Concert Series and the “Pals of Tommy Steering Committee and Marching Society” (just some friends) will proudly present Bluegrass in the Good Land – an extraordinary bluegrass concert and afternoon of workshops on January 15th, with legendary fiddler Byron Berline, along with Peter Feldmann and The Very Lonesome Boys (David West, Tom Lee, and Tom Marton) and Phil Salazar and The Kin Folk (Rick Borella, Charlanne Gastineau, Mike Mullins, Tom Corbett, and Bill Knopf). Hot pickin’!
Did you say “afternoon workshops?” Yes, indeed. Two very special workshop/seminars, open to all:
• “King of Instruments” – The History and Interaction of Bluegrass Fiddle and Mandolin: with Byron Berline and Peter Feldmann; and
• Bluegrass Banjo – Hot Licks for Improvising and Arranging: with the amazing Bill Knopf.
All of the proceeds from this day of music will go to the Marton Family Medical Fund. The musicians, organizers, and vendors are all donating their time, talents, and materials.
On Saturday, January 15, 2011 the workshops will begin at 2:00. The concert will begin at 7:00. The whole thing is taking place at The Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 820 N. Fairview Avenue in Goleta – home of The Song Tree Concert Series.
Admission to the concert is $30. Admission to either workshop is $20. Package deal: Admission to the concert and a workshop is $45. Tickets are available now, and will be sold at Boo Boo Records in San Luis Obispo; Jensen Guitar and Music in Santa Maria and Santa Barbara; and Folk Mote Music in Santa Barbara. They’re also available online at Tricopolis Records:
Here’s another way: purchase by mail! Bluegrass tickets make great stocking stuffers. If you’re the kind who plans ahead (or even if you’re not), you can order tickets by mail. We will mail you your tickets (if you send us a stamped envelope) or, if we receive your order close to the event, we will hold your tickets for you to pick up at the door. Use this form or any old piece of paper. Give us your name, phone number, and email (if you use email). In case things change or we are sold out, we need to be able to contact you. Send a check – made out to “Marton Family Medical Fund” – with your ticket request and a stamped, self-addressed envelope, to Song Tree, PO Box 615, Goleta, CA 93116.
